DSE Awareness/DSE Awareness with Self-Assessment (DSE Scotland)
About the course
Despite the vast majority of us using DSE as part and parcel of modern life, the recognised risks to health which this can bring are often overlooked or poorly understood. DSE Awareness provides clear and engaging information on the risks to physical and mental wellbeing, and how they can be managed. DSE Awareness also helps organisations meet general legal obligations to manage the safety and health of staff and non-employees, and specific duties under the DSE Regulations 1992 (as amended) - these include providing information and training on health risks and the safe use of DSE, and carrying out DSE risk assessments for staff who regularly use this technology for work.
Who should attend?
This course is suitable for anyone who uses Display Screen Equipment (DSE) - including PCs, laptops, tablets and smartphones - for work. Learning is equally applicable to the safe use of technology in leisure time.
What will you learn?
Learners will gain an understanding of the main risks to health associated with DSE use and how these can be avoided, and also the importance of physical activity and reducing sedentary behaviour (both at work and in leisure time) for good health. Optimum chair and workstation set-up are carefully explained, as are strategies for home and mobile working.
At no additional cost, DSE Awareness can be supplied with a downloadable DSE risk assessment form (pdf). Learners are then guided through the process of completing an individual DSE risk assessment (often called a desk or workstation assessment) as they go through the training. This allows employers to meet their legal obligations to assess, identify and manage any DSE risks.
